The Beachwood City public school system serves
Beachwood, Ohio . It encompasses Fairmount School of Early Childhood, Bryden School, Hilltop School, Beachwood Middle School, and the Beachwood High School. They run from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, and the current superintendent of the schools is Dr. Richard Markwardt. The Beachwood school district is currently undergoing a grade shift, the result of which is that the middle school will now have three grades. Fairmount School will have only pre-kindergarteners. Bryden School will have kindergarteners, first-graders, and second-graders. Hilltop School will have third-graders, fourth-graders, and fifth-graders. The Middle School will have sixth-graders, seventh-graders, and eighth-graders, while the High School's organization will remain unchanged, with grades 9-12 going to the high school. The newest administration at the high school consists of Mr. Hardis and Mr. Chase.
Achievements and information
The schools have a gifted program (Horizons) and make accommodations for children with disablities. Solely
Beachwood, Ohio residents are permitted to learn at the schools, however there are private schools as well. The Middle School allows the students to have their own laptops with an innovative 1-to-1 laptop policy. The orchestra and band classes offered are only available to Hilltop students and up. The high school and middle school have been awarded Blue Ribbons of Excellence and the middle school has been called an Apple "Success Story" because of its laptop program. This program lets the students keep their own laptops for their middle school career.KMO The 5th and 6th grade Horizons students participate in an academic contest called Knowledge Master Open, which they won first in the world on
January 25 ,2006 . In the Knowledge Master Open, students compete with schools around the world via computer.Destination Imagination
The Beachwood City School system participates in the Destination Imagination program. in the 2007-2008 school year six teams competed
March 15 ,2008 at Lorain County Community College, and four of those teams won their challenge and will compete in the state tournament April 12 in Barberton, Ohio. The teams consist of a maximum of seven students and are managed by parents who volunteer their time.References
