Albert F. Sabo

Albert F. Sabo

Albert F. Sabo (1920 – May 8, 2002) was a Court of Common Pleas judge in the U.S. city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is most famous for presiding over the 1982 murder trial of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Sabo served as a judge from 1974 until forced to retire in 1993 when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reduced from 14 to 10 Philadelphia's allotment of senior (past the nominal retirement age of 70) judges.

Abu-Jamal's supporters claim that Sabo presided over more trials resulting in a death sentence than any other judge in the history of Pennsylvania, although this claim has never been proven since no such statistics are collected, nor have they ever been collected in the United States.
