Saryupareen Brahmins

Sarupareen Brahmins or Saryuparin are a caste of North Indian Brahmins who reside on the eastern plain of the Saryu River. There are various subdivisions amongst these Brahmins. One group consists of disciples of three gotras (family clan names) i.e. Garga, Gautam, and vats. Most gotras claim connection to a specific, Rishi (a sage or seer who heard a Veda from the Supreme Being Brahman. Of these the Garga's rishi and his disciples are the first who made their ashram for studies of The Yajurveda. The Gautam's Rishi and then the vats Rishi started the studies of The Yajurveda and The Sama Veda in their ashrams. These three gotras are graded highest amongst Brahmins. Also in the caste are 13 additional rishis whose disciples are known as the home of 13.

This community is better known for their migration in search of job, they have migratedtowards other parts of india like madhya pradesh,chhattisgarh,assam,west bengal,gujratmaharashtra, and even overseas like surinam,fiji,gayana,mauritius,trinitad etc.The community has influencial existence in civil services,medical,technology,academic field.the supreme community in north india.The community is considered to be the most conservative brahmins of north india who stillpractices all customs and traditions.Major surnames of Saryupariya Brahmins are Pandey, Sharma, Tiwari, Tripathi, Shukla, Mishra, Dubey(Diwedi), Chaturavedi(Choubey), Upadhyay and Pathak.

The saryuparin were considered to be Vedanti (Person who studies Ved) not karamkanDi (Person who performs tantra and mantra activities). some of the famous persons are -
Kamalapati Tripathi,Dindayal Upadhyay,Brajesh Mishra, Satish Mishra, SriNiwas Tiwari,Kesarinath Tripathi (politician),RamchandraShukla,Hazari Prasad Dwivedi(Hindi literature), Mangal Pandey (First Freedom Fighter),Chunky Pandey,Amit Pandey, Saurabh Shukla, Lila Mishra(Bollywood Artists),Anjan,Sameer,Atul.kumar.mishra] ,Rajan and Sajan Mishra are kathak not brahimins (Music)
