History
All of the members of the Philadelphia Ten attended art school in Philadelphia. The group’s first show was held at the Art Club of Philadelphia in February 1917 and it showcased the work of 11 artists, nine trained at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now
Moore College of Art and Design ) and two from thePennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts . More members later joined; in all, 23 painters and seven sculptors participated in the group's exhibitions.In 1998, the Moore College of Art and Design created a retrospective of the Philadelphia Ten that traveled to museums throughout the country.ref|MOORE
