"UNICOR" is the trade name for Federal Prison Industries (also referred to as "FPI").
Federal Prison Industries is a wholly owned government corporation created in 1934 by statute and Executive Order that produces goods and services from the labor of inmates of the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons.
In fiscal year 2006, UNICOR employed over 21,000 inmates and had net sales of $717 million.Fact|date=August 2008
Criticism
Critics say Federal Prison Industries pays slave wages, and that some prisons require all medically fit inmates to work subject to conditions and salary the company itself decides.
