Lakewood High School is a public secondary school located in Lakewood, Colorado and is part of the Jefferson County School District. Lakewood was ranked as the 111th best school in the nation by Newsweek [ [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7723397/site/newsweek/page/2/ The 1,200 Top U.S. Schools - Newsweek America's Best High Schools - MSNBC.com ] ] in 2006, which makes it the highest ranked high school in the U.S. state of Colorado. Lakewood is an International Baccalaureate World School.

New Building

As a result of a bond issue on the 2004 ballot, Lakewood has received over 32 million USD to construct a new school building. Construction began in January 2006, and continued until the summer of 2007. The new building had its official opening over the summer of 2007, with students sometimes assisting teachers move into the new building post term-end. The new building was open for use by the student body and faculty starting at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year.

Academics

Lakewood has both honors and Advanced Placement programs for more advanced students. Lakewood is also the only International Baccalaureate Secondary school in the Jefferson County School District.

Athletics

The Lakewood High School athletics program is as competitive on the playing field as its students are in the classroom. Some recent accomplishments include the following

In the fall of 2006, Lakewood's football team reached the quarterfinals.

The 2007 girls golf team won the Jefferson County League, and Andi Hibbert won the individual title for Jefferson County. In 2008 the Girls' Golf team proceeded to defend their Jefferson County League Title as well as winning the Metro-West Region. Andi Hibbert also won the MVP award for a second year in a row for Jefferson County.

The girls basketball team has also done well, becoming League Champions and advancing to the State finals in the 2007-2008 season. Other recent titles include admirable standings for the softball and girls cross-country teams, which reached the State Championships in 2006. Also, the Lakewood Boys Soccer Team placed second in Jeffco 5A to Chatfield in the Fall of 2007. They went 7-2-1 in their Conference and 9-4-4 overall. Leading offensive leaders were Brad Clark with 8 goals and 5 assists and Joseph Jaavidaan with 6 Goals and 4 Assists. Goalie Michael Sheridan was also a major contributor to their success, consistently one of the best in the state. Previous records for the boys soccer team include:
