He was originally a first mate under an alcoholic Haddock, Allan is often involved in smuggling and other criminal activities as one ofRastapopoulos 'henchmen . He was known originally as Allan Thompson, but when English translations began to appear, this was shortened down to Allan to avoid confusion withThomson and Thompson .Allan appears in every album that features Rastapopoulos, except in "
The Blue Lotus ", when Allan was not yet introduced in the series (though he did appear in redrawn versions of "Cigars of the Pharaoh "). Allan was first encountered in the introductory album ofCaptain Haddock , titled "The Crab with the Golden Claws ", where he was the captain's first officer.In the comics he was known for his
McLean smile, but in the album "Flight 714 " he loses all of his teeth in a fight with the local inhabitants of the island. In theYves Rodier version ofTintin and Alph-Art , Captain Haddock inquires Rastapopoulos as to what became of him, and he responds that he had moved to the United States and acquired an occupation as aletter carrier . The next panel reveals him being chased by aGerman Shepherd Dog . His teeth had been restored.
