Birgitta Ohlsson

Birgitta Ohlsson

Eva Birgitta Ohlsson (born 20 July 1975 in Linköping) is a Swedish politician and Member of Parliament with the Liberal People's Party.

She was born in Linköping and graduated from Katedralskolan. Before being elected to the Riksdag in 2002, she was chairman of the Liberal Youth of Sweden (1999–2002). She has also worked as an editorial writer for several liberal newspapers in Sweden, such as "Dagens Nyheter", "Vestmanlands Läns Tidning", "Västerbottens-Kuriren" and "Sundsvalls Tidning".

She is known especially for her strong feminist views and engagement in foreign politics. She is also a strong supporter of republicanism and the abolition of the monarchy in Sweden. She started to organize a republican faction in the riksdag where its majority were pro-abolition in 2004 following the King's speech about Brunei. But since the recent election several followers will not be represented in the riksdag and it will probably be a pro-King majority for the next four years.
