website = [http://www.kihigh.org www.kihigh.org]Kent Island High School is a public
high school inStevensville, Maryland that first opened in1998 to accommodate the growing population of Queen Anne's County. The school takes its name from Kent Island, the location of the school (and the entirecensus designated place of Stevensville). The school is often seen as the successor to Stevensville High School, which closed in
1966 , and was renovated and reopened as Stevensville Middle School. The two schools have similarschool colors andmascot s (SHS's colors and mascot were blue and gold and the Pirates, compared to blue and silver and the Buccaneers of KIHS). Between 1966 and 1998, residents of Kent Island attendedQueen Anne's County High School .Grades 10-12 are located at Kent Island High School, while 9th graders who would otherwise attend the high school instead attend Matapeake Middle School and participate in activities at Kent Island High School.
A common rumor exists that the school was intentionally designed to resemble a ship when viewed from above, in honor of Kent Island's rich
Chesapeake Bay heritage. However, the resemblance to a ship is not obvious to the observer at first and is more likely a coincidence.External links
