Asbestine

Asbestine is a mineral compound composed of nearly pure fibrous magnesium silicate. It has fire-resistance characteristics between those of asbestos and talc ref label|Books|1|^. It is now used in paper manufacture, but was anciently said to be made into napkins and towels, which, when dirty, were simply thrown into the fire to clean ref label|1728|2|^. By some it was called linum vivum.ref label|1728|2|^
