Asbestine is a
mineral compound composed of nearly pure fibrousmagnesium silicate . It has fire-resistance characteristics between those ofasbestos andtalc ref label|Books|1|^. It is now used inpaper manufacture, but was anciently said to be made intonapkin s andtowel s, which, when dirty, were simply thrown into the fire to clean ref label|1728|2|^.
