Woodford Town F.C.

Woodford Town F.C.

Woodford Town F.C. was a football club based in Woodford, in the London Borough of Redbridge, England. They were established in 1884 and were the founding members of the Delphian League in 1951. They spent most of the 1960s playing in the Metropolitan League before joining the Southern League in 1971. The season was a disaster with the club finishing bottom with only 4 games won. The club left after 1 season and spent the next few years in local leagues in Essex. In the 1986-87 season, they reached the 1st round of the FA Cup. They played in the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1986 losing 4-0 to Piacenza in the semi-final and then 3-2 to Merthyr Tydfil F.C. in the 3rd Place play-off. Fact|date=March 2008 However in 2003, they were voted out of the Essex Senior League. Johnny Haynes played for the club as a boy. Jimmy Greaves was to play at 'The Woods' before retiring altogether and for some years his father was Club President (see Woodford Town Match Programmes from the period).

In November 2006, it was announced that the club was to reform.
