The Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Grand Critérium) is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to two-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,400 metres (approximately 7 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse, and it takes place annually in early October.

It is the oldest and most prestigious race in France for two-year-old horses, and presently the equal richest with the Prix Morny. The leading participants usually become major contenders for the following year's "classics" – the showpiece events for three-year-olds.

First run in 1853, the race was originally titled the Grand Critérium. Initially this took place at Chantilly, and it was run over a distance of 1,500 metres. The race was moved to its present venue, Longchamp, upon the opening of the racecourse in 1857. Its distance was increased to 1,600 metres in 1864.

The Grand Critérium was not run in 1870 because of the Franco-Prussian War. It was abandoned throughout World War I, with no running from 1914 to 1918. During World War II the event was cancelled twice, in 1939 and 1940. Thereafter, when it could not be run at Longchamp, it was temporarily switched to Tremblay (1943–44).

When the present system of race grading was introduced in 1971, the Grand Critérium was classed at the highest level, Group 1. At this time the event took place in mid October. It was brought forward slightly in 1989 to the Saturday of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weekend, but it returned to mid October in 1995.

The governing body of French racing, France Galop, restructured its program of Group 1 races for two-year-olds in 2001. The distance of the Grand Critérium was cut to 1,400 metres, which had previously been the length of a now discontinued event, the Prix de la Salamandre. The former distance of the Grand Critérium, 1,600 metres, was adopted by a new race, the Critérium International. From this point the Grand Critérium was scheduled for the same day as the "Arc" – the first Sunday in October.

The present title of the race, the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère, was introduced in 2003. This was in memory of Jean-Luc Lagardère (1928–2003), a businessman who was also a leading racehorse owner and breeder. Based at the Haras d'Ouilly stud, Lagardère was the champion breeder in France twelve times. He was the president of France Galop from 1995 until his death in March 2003. Notable horses he owned included Linamix, Sagamix and Val Royal.

The fastest winning time in the race over 1,600 metres was 1m 36.0s. This was recorded by Hula Dancer on Longchamp's middle course ("moyenne piste") in 1962. The fastest time since it was cut to 1,400 metres is 1m 18.4s, achieved by Naaqoos in 2008.
