October 12 ,1956 , Madison,Wisconsin ) is a man of letters and a political activist. His journalism, which focuses mainly on real estate, finance, travel, retailing, and sports, has appeared in "The Wall Street Journal ", The "New York Times ", "National Jeweler ", "Travel + Leisure", "Elite Traveler", and "American Heritage ", among many other publications. He's known for his essays on politics, popular culture, and the English language, and he acts occasionally on stage and TV. He hosts a political talk show, "Hardfire," in his home town ofNew York City , and is active in the Libertarian Party.
