Getxo , nearBilbao inBiscay . They are sometimes referred to as Club Arenas de Guecho. They were among the pioneering clubs of Spanish football and in 1928 they were founding members ofLa Liga along with fellow Basque clubsAthletic Bilbao ,Real Sociedad andReal Unión . They currently play in the Tercera Division-Group 4.History
Founded in 1909 as "Arenas Football Club", they became "Club Arenas" in 1912. In 1914 the club played a series of three friendlies against
FC Barcelona and won all three. They subsequently competed in the "Campeonato Norte" along withReal Sociedad ,Athletic Bilbao ,Racing Santander ,Sporting de Gijón andCelta Vigo . In 1917 they won this competition and qualified for theCopa del Rey . They reached the final inBarcelona where they lost 2-1 to Madrid FC after extra time. In 1919 they won another regional competition, the "Campeonato de Vizcaya", and qualified for theCopa del Rey again. This time they won it, beatingFC Barcelona 5-2 in extra time. In 1920 when Spain made their international debut at the Olympic Games, the squad included two Arenas’ players, Pagazaurtundua andFélix Sesúmaga . The club made two more appearances inCopa del Rey finals. In 1925 they lost 2-0 toFC Barcelona and in 1927 they lost 1-0 toReal Unión in the only all-Basque final to date. In 1930 the club finished third inLa Liga . However they only remained in the "Primera Division" for seven seasons and were relegated in 1935.Seasons
