John Hopkins (born 1974) is a British
actor who is best known for playing Sgt. Dan Scott onMidsomer Murders .John, or Hoppers as he is known on-set, joined the cast of Midsomer Murders in series 7 after
Daniel Casey 's DS Troy gained promotion and moved on to pastures new.This was his first TV role, and before joining the series as DS Scott, John built up quite a resume of theatre work while at RADA. Interestingly, in the episode Hidden Depths, the part of Antonia Wilmott was played by
Nancy Carroll , who had attended University with John some 10 years previously.John read English at the
University of Leeds from 1993-1996 and whilst studying joined the Leeds University Union Theatre Group student society, and performed in a number of well-received plays including 'Equus', 'The Importance of Being Earnest' and 'The Crucible'. His performance as Nathan in 'A Short Play about Sex and Death' earned him the Best Actor award at the Sunday Times National Student Drama Festival. After graduating, John studied at RADA and went on to join the RSC.In 2004, John starred in the British
sci-fi thriller "Experiment", directed by first-time feature director Dan Turner. It was shown across the world at film festivals where it won 16 awards. The film is now available in most countries on television or DVD.After leaving the cast of Midsomer Murders after just one series, John returned to the stage but has also found time to appear in TV soap [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183068/ Family Affairs] and the independent film [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0839838/ Grand Junction] , as well as Australian-British co-produced mini-series [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0775403/ Tripping Over] .
His recent Theatre work includes 'Anthony and Cleopatra' and 'The Tempest', both for the RSC, in the latter performing alongside
Patrick Stewart . He has also had a role in the 2007 BBC version of "Robin Hood" in the episode 'Show me the money' as lovelorn knight John of York.John's voice over representation is currently by Evans O'Brien.
Personal life
His interests including climbing, cycling and swimming. He also has some special skills, such as acrobatics and dialects. He has a strong bass voice.
