Tokion is a New York-based magazine covering art, fashion, music and film. It publishes separate
US andJapan ese editions. Tokion also produces the annual Creativity Now Conference, a weekend-long seminar of panel discussions with speakers from across the creative spectrum.History
Tokion was started in
1996 by Adam Glickman and Lucas Badtke-Berkow, two Americanexpatriates living in Japan, and was originally intended to be a cultural bridge betweenJapan and theUnited States . In 2001 Badtke-Berkow left Tokion to begin publishing Paper Sky and Mammoth magazine in Japan, and Glickman began publishing both the Japanese and US editions of the magazine. In1998 Tokion opened an American office inLos Angeles . In2000 Tokion moved into a retail space/office inNew York City , while maintaining a retail space/office in Tokyo. While in New York, the magazine's focus shifted from the mainly Japanese-influenced content to a middle period street culture aesthetic, and finally to a more global view, with a Q&A-style format in interviews with recognizable artists such asLou Reed ,Richard Prince ,James Brown ,Francesco Clemente ,Roger Corman ,Ed Ruscha andJeff Koons , while continuing to cover up-and-coming artists such asHarmony Korine ,Miranda July ,Cory Arcangel and Simone Shubuck.In
2005 the Japanese edition was sold to Infas Publishing Company. In2006 the American edition was sold to independent publisher Larry Rosenblum.External links
