Great Ayton railway station serves the village of Great Ayton in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Esk Valley Line and is operated by Northern Rail who provide all of the station's passenger services.
The station is on a single track rail line and there are only a few trains per day. The Esk Valley railway has been voted one of the most scenic in the whole country, it is mostly passed fields, woodland, and runs a similar course for some of the journey as the River EskThe line was built in the 1830s to carry stone down from the quarry in what is now Newton woods. Until the mid 1960s the station had a goods shunting yard etc. Trains until the 1960's used to run from the station to Stokesley, Whitby Town and Middlesbrough but only the latter two destinations are in use currently. Next to Great Ayton station is the village garage and towing service.
