This large (61 cm) bird is divided into two subspecies, of which the nominate race is found in the states of Fujian, Jiangxi, Zheijiang, and Guangdong, and "T. c. guangxiensis" is confined to northeastern Guangxi and southern Hunan. Tragopan chicks can fly as soon as they hatch. [Robertson (1997) p.14]
