An apobaterion, in antiquity, was a
farewell speech orpoem occasioned by a person's departure out of his own country, or some other place where he had been kindly received and entertained. Such is that ofAeneas toHelenus andAndromache , "Aeneid ", Book III.The apobaterion stands opposed to the
