Navarun Gupta is an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at
University of Bridgeport inConnecticut , and was the subject of a documentary onSouth Asia n gay men.He was born in
Orissa ,India and spent his early childhood in Orissa andBhopal . His family settled inDelhi , where he attended school. Gupta attained hisBachelor of Engineering degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering at theUniversity of Delhi in1988 . He then enrolled atGeorgia State University where he graduated with a MS in Physics in1992 . Gupta obtained an MS in Electrical Engineering atMercer University in Atlanta in1998 , and finally a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering atFlorida International University in2003 . His main areas of research aredigital signal processing ,neural network s, and related fields. 2001 , Gupta was the subject of a short documentary directed by his sister Vismita Gupta. The documentary, titled "For Straights Only", (see imdb.com entry)chronicles Gupta's struggles with his gay identity and family issues which arose when he related this news to his parents.
