- High Prairie Times
The "High Prairie Times" is the local community newspaper in High Prairie,
Alberta ,Canada . It was started by Tina Kennedy and Derek Lalonde. The pair had worked at another newspaper in the small community, but were unhappy with the working environment. A series of events led to the idea that with their knowledge and experience, it was possible to start a new newspaper that could be, they felt, both community minded and honourable.
In November 2005, the "High Prairie Times" came to life, and it is now enjoyed for its diverse content, story composition, excellence of photography, well constructed advertisements, clean and crisp layout, and integrity. Fact|date=February 2007
The "Times"' unique approach to the local news and its reader friendly and unorthodox design have been very well received by the public. Fact|date=February 2007
Being the young business that it is, the "High Prairie Times" has had its struggles, but it has been by the support of the people and many businesses that it has maintained its existence.
Tina and Derek have received many phone calls and emails, and have had many comments from people on the streets, telling them that they are doing a great thing, and to not give up because their growing newspaper is really making a difference in the little town, known by many as "Alberta's best kept secret". Fact|date=February 2007
One woman who works for Human Resources told Tina that, out of the 50 newspapers she has to read every week, the "High Prairie Times" is her favorite.
It has been by comments, support, and the inspiration of the public, that Tina and Derek are able to find the courage and conviction to continue bringing the people a newspaper that they deserve. A newspaper that shares the voice of the people, and helps to recreate the spirit of the times on each and every page.
In November 2006 the Times went on hiatus. As of mid-June 2007, it has not resurfaced.
