Tannis root

Tannis root

Tannis root can mean these things:

*The fictional herb used by the neighbors of Rosemary in Roman Polanski's classic 1968 film "Rosemary's Baby", and in the novel of the same name by Ira Levin. The proper name, Tanis, is the Greek form of Tanith - derived from Semitic roots meaning "serpent lady". This was the name of the Phoenician goddess of love, fertility, the moon and the stars.
**Mentioned in the song "Doctor Marvello" by Klaatu [http://klaatu.org/lyrics/347est_lyrics.html#album1-6] .
*An entertainment merchandising company based in North Carolina associated with artists such as Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, Beck, Pavement and Tenacious D.
*Mentioned in the Song "Tannis Root" by "Phantom Ghost".
*Mentioned in the song "Squirming Coil" by Phish.
*Mentioned on ABC Daytime show All My Children on Friday January 25, 2008, as a possible cause for the poisoning-like symptoms of fictional characters Dr. Franklin Quentin "Frankie" Hubbard and Greenlee Smythe. Frankie Hubbard had ingested the root as part of a stew he made for himself while living in the forest, after returning from fighting in Iraq. Greenlee Smythe ingested water from the roots of the plant in order to satiate herself, at the behest of Zachary "Zach" Slater (born Alexander Cambias, Jr.), while both were trapped in a bomb shelter they had fallen into, in the same forest.
