- Angelo Acciaioli II
Angelo Acciaioli II or Angelo Acciaioli junior (
April 15 1349 -May 31 ,1408 inPisa ) was an Italian Catholic cardinal.Born in
Florence , he was electedbishop of Rapallo in 1375, but in 1383 he was transferred to the see of Florence where he had been preceded by a previous family member many years before,Angelo Acciaioli I . He was promoted to the cardinalate onDecember 17 ,1384 byPope Urban VI . He defended legality of the election of Urban VI and his successors against the claims of the antipopes Clement VII and Benedict XIII. In thePapal conclave, 1389 he was nearly of being elected to the papacy. Legate ofPope Boniface IX in theKingdom of Naples in 1390 and inHungary in 1403. He crowned kingLadislaus of Naples . He was namedVice-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church in 1394 and promoted to the suburbicarian see of Ostia e Velletri in 1397. He reformed the Benedictine monastery S. Paolo fuori le mura in Rome and participated in thepapal conclave, 1404 . Newpope Innocent VII named him archpriest of the patriarchal Vatican Basilica shortly afterDecember 4 ,1404 . He becameDean of the Sacred College of Cardinals at the death ofFrancesco Carbone Tomacelli onJune 18 ,1405 . He presided over thepapal conclave, 1406 . He died inPisa at the age of 59. His remains were transferred to the Carthusian monastery in Florence.ee also
