- Wooton Bassett
Wooton Bassett is a newer main character in the
Christian -themed radio drama/comedyAdventures in Odyssey . He is the mailman in Odyssey, often stopping by the ice-cream storeWhit's End , which is the main scene for many of the episodes. His love of toys and comics give him the ability to relate well with the Odyssey kids, despite the fact he is in his mid-30s. He shows his love for fun games and toys by the fact that he has happy meal toys lining the walls, he also has an exit slide to get out. In the episode "Bassett Hounds", it is found that he is actually a member of a very wealthy family, with grandparents who are missionaries inAfrica (even though they live inAlaska ). Also in that same episode, and with hints in other episodes, it is discovered that Wooton is the creator of the Powerboy Comics he obsesses over, explaining why he is often seen mulling over an obstacle Powerboy is faced with. In several episodes, it is also revealed that he has a passion for the song "Camptown Races" and he demonstrates the ability to play the song on several instruments including the banjo, saxophone, piano, and organ.Wooton also has a twin brother named Wellington who is basically the anti-Wooton. Whereas Wooton demonstrates a strong Christian faith and a desire to help everyone, Wellington is cynical, uncaring, and snobbish towards all, causing him to take advantage of Wooton's generosity on several occasions. However, Wellington's daughter does not share her father's attitude, and takes a liking to Wooton. Their father is similar to Wellington's character, and it is shown that Wooton and his father had not spoken in many years because of Wooton's acceptance of the Christian faith.
Wooton was named after a town in England,
