Hossein Fatemi

Hossein Fatemi

Hossein Fatemi, PhD, was a famous politician of Iran, born in 1919 in Nain in a religious family

Career

He moved to Isfahan where he became involved in the publication of the newspaper "Bākhtar" early on. This same paper was later moved to Tehran.

He was a caustic critic of the ruling Pahlavi Dynasty, and his views were candidly reflected in his newspaper editorials.

He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in Mossadegh's cabinet, and became an ally of his.

Arrest and execution

Things however turned to his disadvantage after the fall of Mossadegh by a coup d'état supported and funded by the British and U.S. governments. He was arrested in 1954, and was sentenced to death during what became known as "Divan Balkh", accused of trying to overthrow the Shah. The following Mossadegh supporters were also sentenced with him as follows:

*Dr. Shayegan: Life Sentence
*Mohandes Razavi: Life Sentence

He was executed on 10 November 1954 (19 Aban 1333 AP) in Tehran. Before his execution, in his will, he made Mossadegh as the guardian of his only son, "Cyrus". He is buried in Ebn-e Babooyeh cemetery in Shahr-e Ray, near Tehran. [Photograph of Dr Fatemi's grave: [http://inlinethumb02.webshots.com/5889/2753323610061594669S600x600Q85.jpg] .]
