South Australia , Mulligan grew up on his family’s vineyard in theCoonawarra wine region. One of six children, Mulligan was determined from a young age that his chosen career would involve sport. In 1989, aged 16, he joined Channel 8 inMt Gambier as a junior sports reporter.Over the next six years he worked at
WIN TV inShepparton andWollongong . In 1995, he joinedTen News in Sydney as a sports reporter. Three years later in 1998 he joinedNational Nine News as a sports reporter. A year later he began presenting the sports report on Nine’s weekend news, withJo Hall . He also used fill in for the weeknight sports presenter Tony Jones throughout the year.
