Stephen Stoll (born
April 3 ,1947 ) is an American politician from the state ofMissouri . He served 12 years in theMissouri General Assembly .Stoll was born in St. Louis and raised in Jefferson County. He attended Catholic Schools in Festus and attended
Southeast Missouri State University . In 1970 he received aBachelor of Arts degree inpolitical science from theUniversity of Missouri–Columbia . He served in the US Army from1971 to1973 and graduated from theUniversity of Missouri–St. Louis in 1979 with amaster of education . Following graduation, he worked as a classroom teacher for nearly 20 years.Stoll's political career began with his election to a part-time position on the Crystal City City Council in 1983. He served on the City Council until his election to the
Missouri House of Representatives in1992 . He was re-elected to the Missouri House in1994 and1996 . In1998 he was elected to the Missouri State Senate. He was re-elected to his senate seat in2002 . In2004 , Stoll sought election to theUS House of Representatives to replace retiring RepresentativeDick Gephardt .
