Albie Tedham

Albie Tedham (b. February 1926 in Langholm, Scotland. d. 1980) was a well known fiddler and pianist.

Albie was born Albert Thomas Tedham on the 9 February, 1926 in Kirk Wynd, Langholm. He was educated in [http://www.langholmacademy.org.uk/content/welcome.php Langholm Academy] and later worked at Arthur Bell's Mill. Albert had considerable musical talent from a young age and despite being deaf, managed to win over 300 trophies for his efforts. He managed to play despite his disability through feeling and recognising each of the unique vibrations of the strings or keys of the instruments he played. Albert was known to have performed on Border Television and played annually at the traditional Common Riding Consert and at some of the ride outs. He was also famous for playing 'pop goes the weasel' for children. In 1979 he and the Stewart Sneedon band together released a record named "The Border Dance band at Gretna Hall". On a number of occasions he played with the great Jimmy Shand.

As a person, he was well liked and well known by many of the people of Langholm and its surrounding areas. He was also at the time, one of Scotland's most renowned fiddlers. Albie was a right-handed player. He was married to Sarah bell in 1958. He had 5 sons and 1 daughter. His own children thought he was magic as he would perform tricks with the sweets by rolling a towel around his hands and getting them to say the magic words. Albie would go and entertain the old people at the old people homes.

In 1980, Albert Tedham died of a cancer of the lungs and was buried in the Langholm Cemetery.
