The greater occipital nerve is aspinal nerve arising from thedorsal primary rami ofcervical spinal nerve 2, between the first and secondcervical vertebrae , along with thelesser occipital nerve .It innervates the
scalp at the top of the head, over theear and over theparotid glands .Clinical relevance
Disorder of this nerve is one of the causes of
cervicogenic headaches, referred to asoccipital neuralgia s.
