- Hot Rize
:"This article is about the bluegrass band. For the self-rising flour, y'all go see
Martha White ."Hot Rize is a bluegrass band that rose to prominence in the early 1980s, consisting of Tim O'Brien onmandolin andfiddle ,Pete Wernick onbanjo ,Nick Forster on electric bass. It also hadCharles Sawtelle onguitar until his 1999 death.Three years later,
Bryan Sutton joined the band to play the guitar.Hot Rize has appeared on national
radio andTV shows, and have toured most of theUnited States , as well asJapan ,Europe andAustralia .An entertaining part of their show is to all swap instruments and dress up as an imaginary
Western swing band called Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers. The band takes its name from the leavening ingredient found in Martha White flour and cornmeal products. Interestingly enough, during their concerts, Hot Rize will often perform the theme song to the now defunct
Martha White Biscuit and Cornbread Time , giving credence to the fact that they are named for the ingredient in the song.Flatt and Scruggs also played the theme song when they appeared on WSM's Martha White Biscuit and Cornbread Time radio show in the sixties.Recorded Albums
