Lammot du Pont (1831-1884) was a key member of the
du Pont in the mid-nineteenth century. His father wasAlfred V. du Pont , the eldest son and successor ofEleuthère Irénée du Pont , the founder of the Dupont.He obtained a chemistry degree from the
University of Pennsylvania and entered into the family business.Lammot patented B blasting powder, also known as soda powder in 1857. His invention used as an inexpensive
Peru vian andChile ansodium nitrate and made DuPont a major force in the blasting powder industry. Lammot founded the Repauno Chemical Company and helpeddu Pont into the entry of DuPont into high explosives.He died in an explosion in 1884.
Lammot du Pont married Mary Belin and had the following children:
