Arthur Erskine

Colonel Sir Arthur Erskine, GCVO DSO, was Crown Equerry in the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom 1924-1941.

He was born in 1881, and educated at Charterhouse, and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He served in the Royal Artillery until 1924, when he became Crown Equerry. From 1919-1924 he was an Equerry to the King. From his retirement in 1941 until his death he was an Extra Equerry.

From 1939 to 1963 he was Secretary and Registrar of the Order of Merit, and from 1941 to 1946 Secretary of the Ascot Authority.

Sir Arthur received the DSO in 1916, and was made a CVO in 1926. In 1931 he was knighted and made a KCVO and in 1935 was promoted to GCVO. He died in 1963.
