Kamares, Crete

Kamares is the location of an archaeological site of a Minoan sacred cave in south-central Crete, Greece. [Donald W. Jones, 1999 "Peak Sanctuaries and Sacred Caves in Minoan Crete" ISBN 91-7081-153-9] The sacred cave at Kamares is slightly offset from a saddle in the Psiloriti Range virtually aligned with the location of nearby Phaistos. [ [http://themodernantiquarian.com/site/10857/phaistos.html#fieldnotes C.Michael Hogan, "Phaistos Fieldnotes", The Modern Antiquarian (2007)] ] Some of the best examples of Middle Minoan pottery have been recovered from the Kamares cave.
