- George Birmingham
George M. Birmingham (born 3 August 1954) is a High Court judge and former Irish
Fine Gael politician.George Birmingham was born in
Dublin in 1954. He was educated at St. Paul's College,Trinity College, Dublin andKing's Inns where he qualified as abarrister . He first became involved in politics in 1979 when he became a member ofDublin City Council . He was first elected toDáil Éireann at the 1981 general election asTeachta Dála (TD) for Dublin North Central. Between 1982 and 1986 he served as a Minister of State underTaoiseach Garret FitzGerald at the Departments of Education and Labour and Foreign Affairs The party lost power in 1987 and Birmingham lost his Dáil seat in the 1989 general election. Between 1989 and 2007 he worked as a barrister, becoming aSenior Counsel in 1999. On 3 May 2007 theIrish Independent announced that he had been selected to become a High Court judge.References
