Anne Michaels (born
15 April 1958 ) is a Canadianpoet andnovelist .Born in
Toronto ,Ontario , Michaels attendedVaughan Road Academy and then later theUniversity of Toronto , where she currently teaches. Her first book, "The Weight of Oranges" (1986), a volume of poetry, was awarded theCommonwealth Prize . She received theNational Magazine Award , theCanadian Authors Association Award for Poetry and a nomination for the Governor General's Award for her second collection, "Miner's Pond" (1991). Michaels is best known for her novel "Fugitive Pieces" which won the Orange Prize (one of the most prestigious prizes in English fiction for women), theBooks in Canada First Novel Award , and theTrillium Book Award .Bibliography
