July 17 ,1975 inEdmonton ,Alberta ) is a Canadian professionalice hockey defenceman who currently plays for theEdmonton Oilers . He is a cousin of fellow NHL players Scott andRob Niedermayer .Strudwick was drafted in the 3rd round, 63rd overall by the
New York Islanders in the1994 NHL Entry Draft . He played his first NHL game with the Islanders against theHartford Whalers onMarch 30 ,1996 . In1998 he was traded to theVancouver Canucks forGino Odjick , and after compiling 338penalty minutes for the Canucks he signed as a free agent with theChicago Blackhawks in the summer of2002 .Turning again to free agency, he signed with the Rangers after the
2004–05 NHL lockout .Strudwick started the 2006–07 season with
HC Lugano inSwitzerland before signing a contract onMarch 19 ,2007 with the Rangers. Because he signed with the team after the trade deadline, he was not eligible to participate in the playoffs.
