Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Grandy GCB GCVO KBE DSO KStJ RAF (8 December 1913–2 January 2004) was a senior officer in the Royal Air Force.

RAF career

Educated at University College School in London he joined the Royal Air Force in 1931.

In the summer of 1940, Grandy led 249 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. In the early part of 1942, Grandy took up command of RAF Duxford where he oversaw the establishment of the RAF's first Typhoon Wing.

He was appointed Commander-in-Chief Bomber Command in 1963 and went on to serve as Chief of the Air Staff from 11 April 1967 to 31 March 1971.

Later life

Grandy served as Governor of Gibraltar from 3 October 1973 to 30 May 1978.
