Ferdinand Marian (born: "Ferdinand Haschkowetz"); (
August 14 1902 –August 7 ,1946 ) was anAustria nactor .Marian was born in
Vienna , then part ofAustria-Hungary .Marian's career was overshadowed by his appearance as the title character in
Jud Süß , an infamousanti-Semitic German movie made in 1940 byVeit Harlan . This film, made under the supervision ofJoseph Goebbels , is widely considered to be one of the most hateful depictions of Jews in film. Marian's depiction of the title character followed Nazipropaganda stereotypes of Jews having hooked noses and greasy hair. Marian first refused to act in the film, but was forced to accept when Goebbels threatened the safety of his stepson, who was half Jewish.
