United Nations Security Council resolution 1495 was unanimously approved by the council onJuly 31 ,2003 UN document |docid=S-RES-1495(2003) |type=Resolution |body=Security Council |year=2003 |accessdate=2007-09-06 ] , and dealt with thedecolonization process ofWestern Sahara . Its main importance was that it "supported ... as an optimum political solution" theBaker Plan , put forth byJames Baker III , who was at that time the Special Representative for Western Sahara of the UN's Secretary-GeneralKofi Annan , as a replacement of the 1991Settlement Plan . The resolution was welcomed by thePolisario Front , which supported the Baker Plan, but not by the Kingdom of Morocco, which resisted it.References
