José Padilla, Jr.

José Padilla, Jr. (born July 16, 1911) is a Philippine actor who has appeared in several dozen movies. He made his first movie in 1931 and continued making movies into the 80s.

Padilla also represented his country as a lightweight boxer during the Olympics in Los Angeles, United States in 1932 and the Olympics in Berlin, Germany in 1936.In 1932 he was eliminated in the first round of the lightweight class after losing his bout to the upcoming gold medalist Lawrence Stevens.

Family

Padilla is the son of José Padilla, Sr., Governor of Plaridel, Bulacan and brother of Carlos Padilla. He belongs to the big showbiz clan of the Padillas. He is also the uncle of Rudy Fernandez, Robin Padilla and Grandfather of Zsa Zsa Padilla. He married Arsenia Francisco, a famous actress at that time, and had six children together - Zenaida, Jovy, Maria Edith, Pempe Jr, Og, and Joena.

Movie career

He made his very first movie in 1931, a silent movie Horror flick Ang Multo sa Libingan aka "Ghost in the Cemetery". His second movie, in 1933, was also a successful film in the Philippines, Doctor Kuba, where he played second only to the leading actor Don Dannon. Padilla made approximately 3 dozen movies before the Japanese occupied Manila. Padilla was paired with some of the Philippine Screen Sirens and he teamed up for the first time in 1939 movie of Arimunding-Munding with Carmen Rosales, Ako'y Maghihintay (1938) with his beloved wife in real life Arsenia Francisco, Rosa del Rosario in the 1947 movie Bakya Mo Neneng, Lilia Dizon in Kaaway ng Babae and many more. He continued making a movie until mid 80s.
