Ilfak Guilfanov (born 1966) is a
software developer ,computer security researcher andblog ger. He became well known when he issued a free hotfix for theWindows Metafile vulnerability on31 December 2005 . His unofficial patch was favorably reviewed and widely publicized because no official patch was initially available fromMicrosoft . Microsoft released an official patch on5 January 2006 .Guilfanov graduated from
Moscow State University in 1987 with aBachelor of Science inMathematics . He lives in Liège,Belgium and works for DataRescue. He is thesystems architect and main developer forIDA Pro , which is DataRescue's commercial version of theInteractive Disassembler Guilfanov created.
