- Prescott Observatory
Prescott Observatory (IAU code 684) is operated by
Paul G. Comba .Prescott Observatory may also be the designation of a group of remotely-located assets of
Lowell Observatory inFlagstaff, Arizona . The [http://members.cox.net/kimberly.124/Arizona2000/lowell.html Lowell Observatory website] includes a reference to equipment "on Mars Hill" at "Prescott Observatory", but note that the Lowell Observatory address is on Mars Hill "Road", Mars Hill Campus, so it may be this Prescott has nothing to do with the other. All of Lowell's [http://www.lowell.edu/Research/telescopes.html telescopes] are apparently at theAnderson Mesa Observing Station . The historic [http://www.astronomy.com/asy/default.aspx?c=a&id=2207 Alvan Clark] 24-inch telescope is located on Mars Hill, Flagstaff. The equipment in Prescott is apparently capable of being remotely operated: [http://visionintime.typepad.com/vision_in_time/d/]
"...operated remotely so that the astronomers can run the telescopes and cameras from comfortable, climate controlled quarters, or remain outside to view the night sky."
Although Edward Registrato's Vision in Time Observatories are said to be located inPeoria, Arizona , andDewey, Arizona , "near Prescott". These have no IAU codes.Prescott, Arizona , located about 95 driving miles from Flagstaff, is one of the placesPercival Lowell considered when seeking the ideal site in Arizona to establish a new observatory [http://www.lowell.edu/online_newsletter/spring_05/1894_expedition.html] . The observatory in Flagstaff was founded in1894 . Lowell did many Mars observations and drew maps of what he saw.
