Benito, Manitoba

Benito is a village in the Canadian province of Manitoba located in the Rural Municipality of Swan River. The village is situated in the Swan River Valley, 37 kilometres southwest of Swan River, 475 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg 2 kilometres east of the Saskatchewan border. To the south is Duck Mountain Provincial Park and Forest, to the north is Thunder Hill and further north of Swan River is Porcupine Mountain Provincial Park. The village is served by highway 83.

People from Eastern Canada, England, and Europe first settled Benito around the turn of the century. In 1905, the Canadian National Railway went through and the hamlet of Benito slowly grew and was incorporated as a village in 1941.

The economic base of the region is agriculture and logging.

Thunder Hill

A small hill inside the Swan Valley which is between the Duck Mountains and the Porcupine Forests on the border of SK and MB. Legends have said that the hill use to rumble hence giving it's name Thunder Hill. The last recorded rumble was in 1969. The local ski hill is also on Thunder Hill.
