Kookmin University (hangul:국민대학교, hanja:國民大學敎) is a university located in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

Kookmin University currently includes an academic family of 22,000 students, about 400 faculty members and 300 administrative staff. Since its establishment in 1946, approximately 60,000 graduates have gone on to face other challenges with their diploma from Kookmin University. In 2005, Kookmin University, including the College of Humanities, the College of Engineering and 11 other departments as well as a Graduate school which consists of 3 Professional Graduate Schools and 10 Special Graduate Schools, has become a notable educational institution in Korea. By number of students, Kookmin University is the 6th largest university in Seoul.

Kookmin University is a prominent and leading universitiy in Korea. In the fields of Design, Automotive Engineering, Techno-Design, Law and various other academic disciplines, Kookmin University has developed programs that meet or exceed the highest national standards.

in particular, The College of Design that is most famouse in design held the first rank in two fields and the second rank in three fields among a total of 5 fields as a result of a nationwide assessment in 1997.

Kookmin University's Graduate School of Techno Design, which was established with the view of nurturing design human capability of world level, has been selected for BK (Brain Korea) 21 project. The Techno Design School's interdisciplinary connection and expertise in educationalindustrial cooperation are expected to create synergy with the UIT design.

In order to create the most convenient conditions and provide the best possible learning environment, the Kookmin campus has also undergone a large scale expansion. Recently a new dormitory, an underground parking lot and a modern student building have entirely changed the University.

Well-known alumni include HITE CEO Yoon Jong-Woong, MBC announcer Son Seok-Hee, Pop Singer Lee Hyo-Ri. Under Japanese Rule, the Shangai Provisional Government in Exile established Kookin University to nurture future leaders who would be essential in the rebuilding of Korea.

Haikong Shin Ik-Hee, later to become the first House Speaker of the National Assembly, is inaugurated as the first president and board chairman of the university.Fact|date=February 2007
