(1999)"Bück dich" ("Bend down," "Bend over") is a song by the German Tanz-Metall band
Rammstein that first appeared on their second full-length album, "Sehnsucht". The lyrics refer tosodomy .Live Performance & Controversy
This song is best known for its live performance. When performing it live, vocalist
Till Lindemann has simulatedsodomy with keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz using adildo . Christian "Flake" Lorenz has confirmed in an interview that the dildo squirts a mixture of Pernod liquor and water. This performance is controversial, and once led to Lindemann and Lorenz being arrested during a concert onJune 5 ,1999 inWorcester, Massachusetts (USA). They were each fined $200 and spent the night in jail. Consequently, two versions of Rammstein's "Live aus Berlin" were released - one VHS including "Bück dich" and another VHS and DVD without it.The song has not been performed since
2002 , when it was retired from the Rammstein tour lineup. What Does "Bück Dich" Mean?
"Bück dich" is a command literally meaning "bend yourself" in the sense of "bend over".The German pronoun "dich" is mostly used as the
accusative form ofdu (you, like English used to have "thou" and "thee".) However, it may also be used as areflexive pronoun (examples of English reflexive pronouns would be "self" words, like myself, yourself, himself, etc.) which certain Germanreflexive verbs require to be grammatically correct. Bück (the command form of Bücken) is a reflexive verb, hence the reflexive use of "dich". Germans do not say "Bück runter" (Bend down) or "Bück rüber" (Bend over); instead, they say "Bück dich" (literally "Bend Yourself") but it still means the same thing.Trivia
*The line "Bück dich, dein Gesicht ist mir egal" ("Bend down (over), your face means nothing to me") is from the film "
Tokyo Decadence ".External links
