Vaud inSwitzerland .Its emblem is a white pair of scales imposed on a blue background. The locality of Châtaigneriaz holds the International School of Geneva's campus, "La Châtaigneraie".
The main part of the village (the most built and oldest area of the village) has a 30 km/h speed restriction zone. Founex is a town with many housing development projects and is expanding quickly.
History
Near "Le Gachet" signs were found of Roman-era inhabitation. The first appearance of the village was in
1224 under the name "Fosnay". In1251 it changed to "Founai". During Middle Ages, Founex belonged to the abbey of Saint Maurice. It was later influenced by the Barony ofCoppet , the diocese of Geneva and the Bernese occupation.When the separation of
Vaud fromBern occurred in1536 the village came under control of the district ofNyon . In the1300 s a Cistercian abbeyBonmont and the dependent "la Châtaigneraie" joined Founex. After the Ancien Régime Founex was, from1798 to1803 in the Helvetic Republic's Canton of "Léman".The famous French writer Hélène Grégoire (1904-1998), died in Founex.
In 2002, Founex and 8 other villages formed the area called the "Terre Sainte".
