Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies is an Alternative Program public high school in Calgary, Alberta. As of the 2007/2008 school year, it is housed in the old Lord Shaughnessy High School, a school which focused on trades, after the program shut down. The Calgary Board of Education runs the program as an alternative for students with a focus on humanities (such as police or military careers). Academics are also highly focused upon (for those most interested in attending college or University after graduation). There is a particular focus on Canadian studies. The graduating class of 2007, the first class to graduate, was given the opportunity to go to Europe. Here they visited many important landmarks, such as the Palace of Versaille, the Vimy Ridge Memorial, and Juno Beach in Normandy. This class will be followed by the class of 2008, who will be heading to Europe in June.

The Code of Honor

The School is based on a code of honor. This code is built around the "four pillars", which are principles which have existed since the founding of the school. These pillars are as follows:
*Citizenship
*Leadership
*Physical Fitness
*Academic Endeavour

Though these form the basis of the Code of Honour, there are many other aspects, including:
*Positive Interaction with peers and adults
*Individual Endeavour
*Academic achievement to the best of one's ability
*Safety and security
*Structure, self-control, and discipline
*Caring and Compassion for others
*Working as a member of a team
*Making a contribution to society

Uniform

JBA is a school with a uniform program in effect. This is to promote discipline, a sense of structure, and also to prevent any harassment due to shoddy clothing. Black dress shoes and black socks are part of both types of dress. The school has two basic uniform styles.

Number OnesThese are worn on Mondays, Fridays, and special events. these events could include Remembrance Day, or the anniversary of D-Day. This uniform includes:
*Grey tweed pants or a Calgary Tartan Skirt
*White Dress Shirt
*Calgary Tartan Tie
*Black Cardigan or Blazer

Number TwosThese are worn on Tuesdays to Thursdays:
*Black Pants
*Red or White polo shirtThe cardigan can also be worn. The JBA hooded sweater can be worn instead of a cardigan as well.

Drill

The School offers a precision drilling element not seen in conventional schools. Drill at Juno Beach Academy is done to the standards of the Canadian Forces. A basic amount of drill is learned by the entire student body.

Some students choose to get a more in-depth understanding of drill, and take a special class approved by the CBE. Drill and Parade is a course with three levels (15, 25, and 35). Credits are also offered in these courses (3, 3, and 5 respectively). The curriculum of the class follows the CFP 201, the standard manual for CF drill.
