Inova Fairfax Hospital is the largest hospital in the Washington D.C. area. Located in Fairfax County, Virginia, Inova Fairfax Hospital is the flagship hospital of Inova Health System, one of the largest employers in Fairfax County. The hospital campus includes the only heart institute in the region, the 156-bed Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, as well as the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children.

Inova Fairfax Hospital (IFH) itself is an 833-bed tertiary care hospital, which houses Northern Virginia's only level 1 trauma center (for treating the most critically injured patients), the nation's fifth busiest obstetrics program (with nearly 12,000 live births in 2006), and is one of only six community hospitals in the nation offering the full spectrum of organ transplantation. It is consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the Washington D.C. area and nationwide, being named among the top 40 hospitals for gastrointestinal disorders, gynecology, and heart & heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.cite web

Inova Fairfax Hospital also hosts residents from universities such as the University of Virginia, and is a clinical campus for students from Virginia Commonwealth University. IFH has also hosted medical and nursing students from George Washington, Howard, Georgetown, George Mason and Marymount Universities, as well as Northern Virginia Community College.
