Thomas Redington

Thomas Redington

Sir Thomas Nicholas Redington KCB (2 October 1815–11 October 1862) was an Irish politician and civil servant. He was born in Oranmore, County Galway, to Christopher Redington, an army captain. He sat as a member of parliament for Dundalk in the Liberal interest from 1837 to 1846, and thereafter held a variety of positions within the civil service. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1849 by Queen Victoria for his efforts in combating the Irish Potato Famine. He was permanent Joint Secretary to the Board of Control from 1852 until 1856.
