- Braceborough
Braceborough is a small hamlet in
Lincolnshire ,England , just west off the A15 as it runs betweenMarket Deeping and Bourne, tucked out of the way on theA6121 .Braceborough was once Braceborough Spa, a magnet for
Victorian era hypochondriacs to come and bathe in the natural spring waters. A Bath House was built in 1841, and Doctor Willis treated George III here for his madness. His royal patient used to stay in a wing ofShillingthorpe Hall nearby, now demolished, but there is a tablet inGreatford Church to this note.As with all Victorian Spas, Braveborough's declined in favour as more modern medicines became more prevalent, and finally closed in 1939.
